Check status in iTunes

Connect your disabled iPod to the data cable and check status in iTunes. You will be prompted for providing Apple ID and password if you have connected iPod with apple account. Restoring same can be done easily but if you are not sure about Apple ID and password then you have to follow these steps.

Home not working or disabled

First of all, boot your iPod into Recovery mode which will enable you to update OS. You can do same by pressing ‘Power’ button and ‘Home’ button simultaneously. Keep them pressing until you see Apple logo and then Recovery mode. Perform same steps if you are not successful in few attempts.

If your Home button is not working and not allowing you to enter ‘Recovery mode’ then you need to follow few steps more to get into ‘Recovery mode’. You need to download and install software called ‘Rec Boot’ which comes handy in this condition. It is available for both platforms but I will recommend Mac version to use.

After download and extracting files, just connect your disabled iPod via data cable and let ‘Rec Boot’ detect same.  Post, device detection you will be presented with two options, one is for ‘Enter Recovery mode’ and another one for ‘Exit Recovery mode’.

Choose ‘Enter Recovery mode’ which lets you enter Recovery mode over your disabled iPod.  Now you will be provided with ‘Recovery mode’ screen asking you to connect ‘iTunes’.

Downloading iPod software from Apple

As soon as you are entered into ‘Recovery mode’, check device status in iTunes which will now detect your iPod. It will show two options, either to Update or to Restore. Choose ‘Update’ which will check and download required iPod software (around 1.5 GB) from Apple.

Be patient and don’t disconnect your iPod while it’s updating. You can check progress at top middle near Apple logo. After successful completion of the update, iPod will restart and you will be greeted with ‘Welcome screen’.

iTunes will display a message that ‘Your iPod has been restored to factory settings and restarting’. Leave your iPod connected and it will soon appear in the iTunes window after it restarts.

Enter all your details on your fresh updated iPod and you are ready to use it again.
